  • New Curved iPhone Rumors- What’s So Great About The Curve?

Rumors of a new iPhone design have already started and many people believe the new phone will have a curved shape. Apple competitors, LG and Samsung have already released phones with curved designs, so it is highly likely that Apple with follow suit. So what makes the curved design so special?

If the rumors are right, the new and curved design will include some other features such as, larger screen and more sensitive and accurate touch screens. The new screens may also be able to distinguish between light and hard touches. All of these things sound nice but where is Apple and other phone companies really headed with these larger screens and more high tech phones?

It appears that the goal of most phone companies is to create phones that look and function very similar to a tablet, but are not tablets. Technology pushes this idea further every time a new phone is made, and eventually, it may be hard to tell the difference between a smart phone and a tablet. So does the curved design really make the phones that much better or are they simply for cosmetic purposes?

The jury is still out on how much value a curved screen adds to a phone,” Patrick Moorhead, the founder of tech analyst firm Moor Insights and Strategies, said. “They might be easier to pick up, but I don’t think many people are complaining about that.”

So when it comes to buying a curved iPhone, are you willing to pay out the extra money for a new iPhone that has an impressive new look, but not impressive new features?

  • The Latest iPhone 5S Rumors Get The NMA Treatment

Did you hear? The iPhone 5S is going to be revealed on September 10. That’s at least what industry sources are saying.

Over the past few months, those same industry sources have said that the iPhone 5S will include a fingerprint scanner, a dual-LED flash and other improvements to the tried and true iPhone hardware. It will be interesting to see how Apple sells these features to the public, such as the enhanced security features afforded by a fingerprint scanner. Everybody’s favorite Taiwanese animators point out, however, that it may not as foolproof of a plan as Apple may think:

I can see it now – “Man has arm torn off by random thug in iPhone theft.” And Apple thought its knock-off charger problem was bad.

  • iPhone 5S Rumors: Dual-LED Flash?

According to the newest rumor, regarding the iPhone 5S, the new iPhone will be featuring a dual-LED flash. The new flash option is meant to help users take better pictures when the lighting is poor.

Many devices have been adding a 13-megapixel camera, and it is very likely that Apple will be increasing their megapixels from 8MP to 13MP. With this added upgrade, Apple should gain more interest from the photography community. Even though Apple wouldn’t be the first to add a dual-LED flash, it could still give them a leg up on the competition since the iPhone’s are still the number one smart phone in the U.S.

Another rumor that is circulating around the new iPhone is that the latest beta of iOS 7 contains a string of coding that suggests that Apple will be including a new and important feature to the operating system: a fingerprint sensor. Uncovered by developer Hamza Sood, the code references a biometric scanner that will be built into the future iPhone’s home button.

It is reported that the cheaper version of the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C (C stands for color), will be debuting around the same time as the more expensive and newer version. The iPhone 5C uses “color” because the device is expected to have different hue options to choose from.

According to reports, the iPhone 5C will combine the styling of the iPhone 5, iPod touch, and the iPod classic. Apple has not confirmed all the details about the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

I guess we will all just have to wait and see. The new iPhone is scheduled to debut on September 10.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: If They’re True, This Is What It Will Look Like [Video]

There have been a plethora of iPhone 5 rumors dating back to well before the iPhone 4S came out. As the next iPhone release draws near, people are getting a better idea of what to expect. Tech Radar has put together the following video representing what the device might look like based on the rumors:

It kind of looks like an iPhone, doesn’t it?

The device is expected to be unveiled on September 12. There’s a good chance it won’t actually be called the iPhone 5, but that’s what the majority of people are calling it in the meantime.

More of the latest iPhone 5 rumors (and apparent confirmations) here.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors Jumpstart Smartphone Trade-Ins On eBay

It’s a common phenomenon. As soon as a new iPhone is announced or close to being announced, people flock to stores to trade-in their old phones so they can get full value before price drops knock down the trade-in price for them. We’re still more than a month away from the iPhone 5’s rumored launch, but the trade-in exodus has already begun.

According to CNET, eBay has seen a huge increase in iPhone trade-ins through their Instant Sale program. The 70 percent increase has been mostly through trade-ins of the iPhone 4S 16GB model with the 8GB iPhone 4 and 32GB iPhone 4S closely following.

It seems kind of silly to sell your phone this early when we don’t even know if Apple is going to hold an event in September. If the rumor is true, selling it now might not even be the best course of action as you’ll be sitting on a few hundred dollars of PayPal credit for at least a month. Of course, the rumor does seem legitimate and a September launch would fit perfectly into Apple’s plans to dominate the holidays.

It’s important to note that eBay’s trade-in program runs year round. The increase isn’t any indication that the iPhone 5 is near. The real indication will come in the form of retail partners getting their trade-in programs ready. Best Buy and RadioShack have both traditionally been in the trade-in business and their participation would signal that it’s time to get excited.

Trade-in programs aren’t the only place where old iPhones go. A study from yesterday revealed that many iPhone owners option to hand off their old iPhone to family members when they go buy the newest model. Either way, the cycle of used iPhones leading to new iPhone sales remains unbroken.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors Mean Lower iPhone Sales For Apple

iPhone 5 Rumors Mean Lower iPhone Sales For Apple

Apple released its quarterly earnings report on Tuesday, and included in that were slower than usual iPhone sales.

The latest rumor is that the iPhone 5 (and possibly the iPad Mini) will be released in September. This piece of rumorformation comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, as reported by BGR.

Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer spoke on the company’s earnings call, acknowledging that speculation about the device has hurt iPhone sales. Essentially, people want to wait for the next version, rather than buying one before it comes out.

“We’re reading the same speculation about a new iPhone as you are, and we think this has caused some delay in purchasing,” Oppenheimer is quoted as saying.

Still, it’s not as though Apple isn’t selling iPhones. The company still sold 26 million of them in the quarter, representing growth of 28% over Q3. Apple sold 26 million iPhones in the last quarter, which represents a growth of 28% year-over-year. They also happened to sell 17 million iPads (an 84% increase year-over-year).

Rumor has it that the iPhone 5 (which may not even actually be called the iPhone 5) is currently in the manufacturing stage. The device, no matter what it’s called, is also rumored to have a smaller dock connector than its predecessors, which will mean it won’t be compatible with many existing iPhone accessories.

  • Next Media Animation Tackles iPhone 5 Rumors

Next Media Animation Tackles iPhone 5 Rumors

In this latest video from the Taiwan animation news organization NMA, The ghost of Steve Jobs comes back to congratulate Darth Vader Tim Cook for stabbing a hippie in the back for literally sitting on the domain name iPhone5.com. Then, after seeing the size of Androids “phone” in the bathroom, Darth Tim Cook uses a penis pump to increase the size of the iPhone for the next release. Yep, That’s what happens.

They touch on the fact that Apple has won injunctions to block HTC shipments to the U.S. And even cover the latest news that Siri prefers the Nokia Lumia when asked which smartphone is best. Darth Vader Tim Cook wastes no time in “silencing” the digital help AI.

They also manage to touch on Disney’s rocky road in the eighties. I love a good opportunity to bash Disney, but I don’t get this one. Disney rebounded in the late eighties, and Apple is far from going out of business since Steve Jobs death. Although, you could make the case that this is the last thing that Steve Jobs had a hand in designing, so maybe Apple just comes out with crap from now on. I kind of doubt it, though. Apple is a lot more than just Steve Jobs at this point.

It is true that Steve Jobs is rumored to have major input in the next design, which is to be larger and may have a metal rear panel similar to the iPad. Although I doubt a penis-pump had anything to do with the redesign. As far as a statement about Tim Cook’s masculinity and whether or not Apple is involved in a pissing contest with Google, I’ll leave that up to you.

This is not the first time we have seen Darth Vader represent Apple. Steve Jobs killed Billed Gates and donned the helmet in the last NMA video. That is, before he took a bunch of LSD and literally gave birth to a Macintosh.

Nor it is the first time we have seen NMA tackle Apple rumors. This parody video highlights the ridiculous fervor people put into Apple rumors, and some of the outrageous claims they come up with.

One thing is for sure: We are going to continue to watch NMA’s zaniness, as they cover everything from the Facebook IPO to Sex Robots.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors Still Alive and Well Despite iPhone 4S

There are a couple ways you could look at the announcement of the iPhone 4S, with regards to the lack of an iPhone 5 announcement.

One way would be that this is the iPhone 5. It just has a different name. Another way would be that the iPhone 5 could still be on the way.

Many news outlets and blogs have reported on iPhone 5 rumors for a long time now. Some were related to what Apple would announce on this past Tuesday, and some were about an as of yet unannounced product. Gawker has a post up looking at a handful of articles from various publications in the tech press indicating “how everyone got it wrong”.

Sure, some were flat out wrong, but other rumors may just not be realized yet.

For example, the first example in the Gawker piece points to the launch of a Facebook iPad app at the Apple event. This didn’t happen, but the app is still expected to be unveiled soon. Timing, yes, dead wrong. It also wasn’t the “iPhone 5” event, as indicated in the article in question. It turned out to be the “iPhone 4S and iPod Nano update” event.

The list of stories about iPhone 5 rumors on the web is a whole lot bigger than the sampling offered by this Gawker article. We’ve certainly published our fair share, but have always been careful to note when a story is a rumor. People like to read about rumors, and get and idea of what to expect. Still, rumors are rumors, and they should always be taken with some amount of salt.

All of that said, the unveiling of the 4S has done absolutely nothing to halt the iPhone 5 rumor mill. For example, they’re already talking about the release being delayed until Apple can implement LTE, as late as late 2012 or even 2013. But it’s a rumor. It’s entirely possible that Apple will never launch a phone called the “iPhone 5”.

It’s a pretty safe bet that “iPhone 5” will continue to be used as the name for Apple phones in rumor pieces about the next such offering from Apple until either Apple says flat out that there will be no iPhone 5 or it becomes clear in some other fashion.

In the meantime, the responsible reporters and bloggers talking about this stuff will call a rumor a rumor until it becomes fact.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: A Comprehensive Infographic

It seems like the iPhone 5 rumors started as soon as the iPhone 4 launched last year – and it actuality, they did.

Just a month after the iPhone 4 dropped, people were talking about how Apple was already hard at work designing the iPhone 5. By the end of 2010, we had rumors about the upcoming phone’s new processor, release date, and even wireless payment functionality.

That rumor mill has only intensified up to this point. As of now, most speculations point to the fact that the iPhone 5 will launch soon, probably in early-to-mid October. What will it look like? Reports are conflicting, but many feel that it will be thinner, wider and sport a larger screen.

Oh, and of course there are all those rumors about what carrier will have the device when it launches. The probability of a Sprint iPhone 5 looks good, while there have even been talks about a T-Mobile iPhone 5.

This infographic from allareacodes.com shows the “roadmap” of rumors – and boy are there plenty. Displayed as a set of Apple apps, the infographic labels each speculation as fact, rumor, or “correction” of a previous rumor.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: Alleged Parts Leak Ahead of Alleged October Release Date

iPhone 5 Rumors: Alleged Parts Leak Ahead of Alleged October Release Date

The latest on the iPhone 5 rumor front is a handful of leaked photos of parts that allegedly belong to the upcoming iPhone 5 (the alleged name of Apple’s next phone).

MacRumors is pointing to the website of TVC Mall, which has photos up for a battery, back camera lens and headphone/earphone audio jack flex cable. TVC Mall is a supplier of iPhone parts, and each of the parts here come with the “iPhone 5” label on the site.

The battery, which it says is 3.7V:

    iPhone 5 battery?

    The back camera lens:

    iPhone 5 camera lens?

The headphone audio jack ribbon flex cable:

    iPhone5 Flex Cable?

MacRumors shares in a separate article, photos of the battery from UK repair shop iPatchiPods, which show the same battery, though the labeling is slightly different, indicating they’re of a late development prototype.

Christian Zibreg at 9to5Mac notes that the camera part pictured appears to lack dual LED flash, adding, “Of course, you never know with those leaks. For all we know, this part could just as easily have been used in one of early iPhone 5 design prototypes. It could also be the case of a repair shop looking for some free coverage.”

The latest release date rumors have the iPhone 5 launching on October 7.

  • iPhone 5 Release Date Rumors: Early October Says AT&T

iPhone 5 Release Date Rumors: Early October Says AT&T

It seems like the most widely accepted rumor surrounding the iPhone 5 these days is an early October release. That, accompanied by a September announcement event, is what most of the latest reports have said.

Put this in the “more evidence” column:

Boy Genius Report is quoting their “high level AT&T source” in reporting that the iPhone 5 is definitely slated for and early October release. Apparently, an AT&T Vice President has told several employees that the iPhone 5 will be coming to stores in October.

Speaking to some store managers he reportedly said, “expect things to get really really busy in the next 35-50 days – so prepare your teams accordingly.”

This new information corroborates the latest specific release date rumor of October 7th.

Rumors have also been swirling about Apple’s other high-profile device, the iPad 3. The latest rumors have that release set for early 2012 with a trial production period set for October 2011.

Rumor fatigue can really weigh on you, but it’s interesting when new rumors reinforce the validity of previous rumors, as is the case with this new one. That’s assuming that the words “rumor” and “validity” ever belong in the same sentence.

When I become poisoned with rumor fatigue, I find that music is a great antidote. How about something off of Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album Rumours? Yeah, that sounds fitting.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: November Release Date in Russia?

Another day, another rumor – but this time with some international flair.

Russian publication RBC daily is reporting that the much anticipated iPhone 5 could hit the shelves in their country in November.

Apparently, the Russian handset retailers are in direct negotiations with Apple to speed up shipments of Apple devices to the country. This comes from two sources inside the mobile “retail market.”

Generally, iPhones have been appearing in Russia long after they launch in the U.S. and Europe – up to 6 months in most cases. Russian retailers obviously want to eliminate some of that delay. Here is an explanation of the situation, courtesy of RBC (note: the original page is in Russian, so this is a Google translate version)

Russian operators are negotiating with Apple to supply the iPhone 5, told RBC daily two sources for cellular retail market. According to them, this time mobile companies are trying to achieve the optimal term supply pipes from the American manufacturer. “In general, official aids on the shelves of Russian stores, usually appearing only six months after the official release, that is after premieres not only in the U.S. and Europe. Russian operators want to speed up delivery times “, – says one of the RBC daily. According to preliminary unofficial data, iPhone 5 in Russia may appear as early as November.

“To reduce delivery times operators have long wanted. Indeed, because of delays in Russia, there are many “gray” pipes. And this essentially takes the income of MTS and “VimpelCom” who are forced to wait for official release in Russia “, – says head of research Dennis Agency Telecomdaily pieces. In his view, to include Russia in the list of countries receiving iPhone immediately after the premiere of a new vehicle in the U.S., is quite real. “For Apple this is quite large, important market.”

It seems like service providers are a little miffed that they are unable to sell the actual handsets to customers, only the service to customers who have acquired the handsets through other means.

One of those providers mentioned, VimpelCom, told RBC that yes, they are in negotiations with Apple for expedited supply.

This is important to American and European customers because it implies an earlier release date than November for them. If the Russians project November, that’s more evidence to suggest a September/October release here. And as we know, that speculation has been flying around all week.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors – Release Date Back to September?

The truth is, this is getting ridiculous. Frankly, it’s getting exhausting to keep up. The iPhone 5 rumors have been flying around for months, which is fine, but the release date stuff is just getting out of hand during this final stretch.

It is September? Is it August? No, it’s September. Wait, maybe it’s October. How about October 1st? That’s close to September, but still in October. No, it’s probably in September. Or is it? …

    Yeesh.

While popular speculation earlier this week was October, it seems that September is is back as the front runner for iPhone 5 release date months. I hope this is right, because the sooner it comes out, the the sooner we can stop worrying about what month it comes out. Then we can focus on the iPad 3 rumors. Is it coming out in January? Next June? Tomorrow? Never? We’ll find out eventually, but I can’t wait to go through this rigamarole with the next Apple device. Or maybe we should focus on worrying about the iPhone 6.

Anyway, the latest on the iPhone 5 rumor front, as mentioned, is that it’s looking like September again. Digitimes is reporting that “Pegatron Technology has landed orders for 10 million units of iPhone 5 to become the second ODM of the smartphone. Shipments will start in September, according to industry sources.”

Charles Arthur at Guardian also makes the case that the October rumors “don’t fit the way Apple operates – nor the details emerging from carriers”.

“Apple’s iOS5, which will obviously power the next iPhone version, is rolling towards a September release,” he says, adding “my carrier sources tell me that the boxes in which the new iPhone hardware is encased have been transported to carriers for testing. This is an important step in the release cycle for any phone….. Either way, the new iPhones are in the system, which means they now just have to get approval – which will probably only take a few weeks at most – and can then be signed off for manufacturing.”

He also quotes Steve Jobs on a past release, as saying, “Every single week before the holidays counts, and we didn’t want to wait two weeks when every week counts with very high volumes.”

It’s a pretty good point. No dispute there.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster made some projections based on a survey of indicating that the iPhone 5’s release will mean huge market growth for Apple (compared to Android). More on that here.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: Release Date October 1? Bigger Display?

iPhone 5 Rumors: Release Date October 1? Bigger Display?

Today is another day, so naturally, there are more iPhone 5 rumors going around. Another rumor has come from the supply chain, as they often do, indicating that the device may come with a larger display and a thinner design.

Previous rumors suggested that the device would be thinner and lighter, but this appears to be the latest rumor on the design of the device itself. AppleInsider’s Neil Hughes says Analyst Shaw Wu of Sterne Agee says his sources say the device will have a “slightly larger display than the current 3.5-inch screen found on the iPhone 4,” that it is expected to feature the “same dual-core A5 processor already found in the iPad 2,” and that it will feature a “similar form factor and size to the iPhone 4, but will sport a thinner bezel.”

MacRumors, which I would consider something of an authority on Apple rumors (if rumors can have authorities) says, “Wu does not have a terribly good track record when it comes to iPhone rumors, and some of the case designs floating around and said to have been designed based on the iPhone 5’s form factor instead show a slightly teardrop shape with rounded or tapered edges, with the latter feature much more akin to earlier iPhone models than the iPhone 4.”

Well, that’s why a rumor is a rumor. Who knows?

Eric Slivka at MacRumors also points to a BGR report citing a “reliable source” at Canada’s Telus talking about an interal document that has the iPhone 5 pegged for an October 1st release date – something MacRumors is also skeptical about, suggesting that this is probably just a placeholder date.

Rumors did arise this week, that the device is expected to launch in October, after months of rumors that it would come out in September (with August even being mentioned at one point). October 1 would put it right on the edge of September and October obviously, and as BGR points out, that would fall on a Saturday – the busiest day of the week for mobile stores.

Regardless of what the design ends up looking like and what day the device is actually launched. I think it’s safe to say that you can rest assured that it’s going to sell pretty well. Apple keeps managing to outdo itself in earnings reports. In its most recent, Apple reported a 142% increase in iPhone sales year-over-year, contributing to to $28.57 billion in revenue for the quarter – a record quarter for iPhone sales.

iOS 5, Apple’s upcoming operating system update will launch this fall, but no specific date has been given yet. Developers have now been treated to the iCloud web interface, however.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: Release Date Now October?

iPhone 5 Rumors: Release Date Now October?

Rumors have been going around for months that the next version of the iPhone would see the light of day in September. Here it is now August, and it appears to be getting closer.

    Or is it?

Just as we get a month closer to the expected September release date, the rumor mill goes and pushes the devices’s launch back a month. So perhaps we’re just standing still.

John Paczkowski at All Things D is reporting, citing “sources with knowledge of the situation” that October is when we can expect the iPhone 5 launch (if it is in fact actually called the iPhone 5). Of course no date has been given, so that could put it anywhere from just missing that September release to Halloween.

Some rumors in the past have even suggested that the device could come as early as August, but until now, the general consensus has kept it in September.

The device is expected to be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4, run on a wireless baseband chip from Qualcomm, and come with an 8-megapixel camera. Other rumors that have been tossed around throughout the year have been that the device may not come with NFC technology (which would be huge, considering Google’s big Payments plan…meanwhile, others suggest that it will come with NFC), that it could come to T-mobile, and that it will have a built-in bumper (which would presumably prevent another antennagate.

Of course, a rumor is a rumor, and there have been tons of them surrounding this particular device for months and months. In October, we’ll finally get to see just which ones were on the money.

    Or will we?

Apple reported a 142% increase in iPhone sales year-over-year when it reported its fiscal year third quarter earnings, which contributed to $28.57 billion in revenue. That was a record for iPhone sales by the way.

iOS 5 is expected to launch this fall, but no specific date has been given for this yet either.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: Release Date Still Looking Like September

Most of the rumors that have been going around for a while now, have suggested that we would see Apple releasing the iPhone 5 (if that’s what it actually ends up being called) come out in September. Last week, Boy Genius Report said it could even be August, but still the general consensus has pretty much kept it in September.

BGR wrote: ““We have been told by a reliable source to expect a radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details surrounding the design of the new iPhone case. What about a release, then? The consensus is that Apple is going to announce the next-generation iPhone at the company’s annual September event, traditionally focused on iPods, but we have heard it’s quite possible Apple will break tradition. According to our source, Apple may hold an event in the beginning or middle of August to announce the new iPhone, with availability to follow in the last week of August.”

Following that, Bloomberg put out a report saying the company “plans to introduce a new iPhone in September that boasts a stronger chip for processing data and a more advanced camera, according to two people familiar with the plans.”

Now, AppleInsider is reporting that production of the the device is projected for August, with a late third-quarter (ending in September) launch, based on “intelligence obtained by one investment banker’s recent trip to Taiwan.” That would be Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who apparently met with people unknown in Taiwan, where Apple’s supply chain and manufacturing facilities are. She also noted that cheaper iPhones may be in the works.

Interestingly, Huberty also reportedly said that those televisions we began hearing about last week may also be in the works, saying she believes Apple is in the “early design stages” for it. Last week’s report came from DailyTech said that a former executive claimed Apple would enter the TV display business late this year, tapping a “major OEM” to sell iOS-powered, Apple branded displays.

Rumors of the next iPad coming with a higher resolution screen also emerged.

Apple’s iOS 5, the next version of the iPhone’s operating system is due out this fall. The company demoed it at its Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: Coming in August, New Design

Oh, the iPhone 5 rumors. How they capture the hearts and minds of us all.

Rumor has it now that the device, which is supposedly back to being an actual new device, as opposed to an upgraded iPhone 4, will be announced in August at an Apple event, and it will even have a completely new design.

The latest comes from Boy Genius Report, which says, “We have been told by a reliable source to expect a radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone, though we have not been given any additional details surrounding the design of the new iPhone case. What about a release, then? The consensus is that Apple is going to announce the next-generation iPhone at the company’s annual September event, traditionally focused on iPods, but we have heard it’s quite possible Apple will break tradition. According to our source, Apple may hold an event in the beginning or middle of August to announce the new iPhone, with availability to follow in the last week of August.

Some past rumors have had the device coming with a larger screen, and a faster speed in general. It would not be surprising if it turns out to be lighter and thinner, considering how this turned out to be a huge upgrade from the iPad to the iPad 2.

iOS 5 was of course revealed at Apple’s Worldwide developers conference earlier this month. It includes 1,500 new APIs and 200 new user features, including an Android-like “notification center,” a Newsstand feature, built-in Twitter integration, some Safari upgrades, camera upgrades, game center upgrades, and the big iCloud release.

iOS 5, while the SDK is currently available for developers, will ship to customers in the fall. It sure would be nice if there were a whole new iPhone to go along with it.

  • iPhone 5 Rumors: A Roundup

    iPhone 5 Rumors: A Roundup

Update 08/19: Since the article was originally pieced together in March, there have been many rumors flying around about the device. Many of them have simply been around the release date. As of right now, it looks like it’s going to be early October, based on the latest from Boy Genius Report, who cites an AT&T Source.

    Other recent rumors include:

Telefónica Scaling Back Stock To Make Room For iPhone 5,j a possible release with 4G LTE support, and a bigger display.

Let me preface this by emphasizing that nothing here should be taken as fact at this point. That’s why they’re rumors. Some may be more believable or more credible than others, but a rumor is still a rumor.

    – Rumors have the iPhone 5 pegged for release sometime in the summer.

    – The iPhone 5 may not be called the iPhone 5. Michael Nace, writing for the site iPhone5NewsBlog once made some interesting points about Apple’s naming system. “First off, the ‘numbered’ iPhone models picked up their names primarily not by series, but by the network generation that they jived with,” he wrote. Think 3G/4G, etc.

What does Apple have in store with the iPhone 5? “Second, if Apple indeed intends to release the iPhone 5 (as we euphemistically call it) too quickly in the iPhone release schedule, calling it ‘the iPhone 5’ will only further highlight how close the new iPhone will be released from the iPhone 4, thus exacerbating the perception that the iPhone 5 is a ‘make-up’ model for a flawed iPhone 4,” he wrote.

The iPhone 5 may not come with NFC technology. A report from the New York Times this week, says, “According to two people with knowledge of the inner workings of a coming iteration of the Apple iPhone — although not necessarily the next one — a chip made by Qualcomm for the phone’s processor will also include near-field communication technology, known as N.F.C. This technology enables short-range wireless communications between the phone and an N.F.C reader, and can be used to make mobile payments. It is unclear which version of an iPhone this technology would be built into.”

It would seem likely that it would in fact be in the next version, but an article from The Independent recently cited “Sources at several of the largest mobile operators in the UK” as saying that Apple said in meetings that it wouldn’t include NFC in the next version of the iPhone, based on concerns about the lack of a clear standard across the industry.

The iPhone 5 could come to T-Mobile. Given the pending merger of AT&T and T-Mobile USA, it doesn’t seem to far-fetched that the iPhone 5 will come to T-Mobile, even if it is released for AT&T and Verizon first.

    – Recent rumors have the iPhone 5 coming with a larger screen. As we referenced in another article, The China Times reported that trial production has begun on the next iPhone, with 4 inch screens.

    – The iPhone 5 will be faster. How could this not be on the list of improvements – especially after reports of Android devices being faster? It seems fairly obvious that Apple will keep progressing in terms of speed. They did it with the iPad.

    – The iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter. Ok, this is more speculation than rumor, based on the iPad 2 release. I don’t really have any good source of information to go on with this one, but it was certainly a major improvement for the iPad line. Why not make as similar move with the iPhone?

The iPhone 5 will have a built-in bumper. Apple certainly doesn’t want a repeat of antennagate. They’re going to have to do something to make sure that doesn’t happen. One way or another, the antenna issues will have to be resolved.

    – The iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 will actually be the same device, merging the two product lines into a smaller version of the iPad with a bigger screen for  iPhone users . OK, I just made that one up. Disregard.

    iPhone 5 Rumors Surface

Speculating about unreleased Apple products can be a full time job if you want it to be.  For those who want to navigate the rumor mill, there are a couple of gems out there right now.

According to the New York Times, information provided by unnamed insiders reveals that the next gen iPhone may in fact contain NFC technology.  Near-field Communication, as you may know, is short wave communication that allows communication between a device and a reader.  In this case, the NFC technology would allow iPhone users to swipe their phones in front of a reader, and make quick credit card payments.

    From the Times:

One person familiar with the new Apple feature said the phone’s credit card information would be tied to information currently used on iTunes, which would make it simple for customers to set up the new mobile payment method on the iPhone. Last year, Apple hired Benjamin Vigier, an expert in the mobile payments industry who works with N.F.C. extensively. Apple has also filed patents that demonstrate how such a system would work on the iPhone.

With some cars having iPhone apps for remote start-up, the addition of NFC could truly mean that some people could leave their house carrying nothing but an iPhone.  Apple might be rolling this out at a good time, as today NFC World confirmed that POS terminal company Verifone is building NFC into all new terminals.

The next rumor is a bit shakier.  The China Times (translated, proceed carefully) reports today that trial production has begun on the new model iPhone, and that the test runs have 4 inch screens, a whole half an inch larger than the 3.5 inches of all previous iPhones.  If true, this might be another smart decision for Apple.  As we told you earlier today, new research confirms increased purchases of large screen phones.

  • Apple’s iPhone 14 Event Scheduled for September 7

Apple’s iPhone 14 Event Scheduled for September 7

The iPhone 14 may be arriving a week earlier than expected, with Apple reportedly holding the launch event on September 7.

The iPhone 14 is Apple’s anticipated next-generation device. One of the biggest rumored new features, at least for the Pro model, is the elimination of the much-maligned notch. Instead, the new model will likely feature two cutouts, one pill-shaped and the other round, to house the FaceID and camera components.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will launch the iPhone 14 on Wednesday, September 7. This is roughly a week sooner than Apple usually schedules its September events. Meanwhile, Apple Store employees have reportedly been told to prepare for a major product release on September 16, which matches up to the usual window between when a product is launched and when it shows up in Apple’s stores.

It’s unclear why Apple has opted for an earlier date, but it may be because of the state of the industry and economy. With experts warning of an economic downturn, Apple may be looking to release the iPhone 14 as early as possible.

Apple Peak Performance: iPhone 13 SE

At Apple’s Peak Performance event, CEO Tim Cook took the wraps off the iPhone 13 SE, following months of rumors and anticipation.

The new iPhone 13 SE will be powered by the same A15 Bionic chip as the rest of the iPhone 13 line, making it up to 1.8x faster than the iPhone 8. Apple’s Francesca Sweet also pointed out the A15 Bionic is faster than anything in the Android ecosystem.

The new phone features the same aluminum and glass design, including the same glass as in the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. Sweet says its the strongest glass in any iPhone. The new model comes Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red colors.

As predicted, the new model features 5G, but is significantly more expensive than some had projected. Some analysts thought Apple may introduce the iPhone 13 SE with a starting price of $199. Unfortunately, the starting price point is $449.
